The Custom Translation custom translation feature in WorkBook allows you to customise the terminology used in WorkBook to meet your specific business or language requirements. You can also update the language layer lookup table, export translation tables, and import translations from external sources.

Custom translations can be performed in the Settings settings module and are usually managed by designated role(s) or person(s) within each agency.

To use the custom translations, you need to have access to Settings settings that is set up under Employee Cross-Company Accessemployee cross-company access, and is be an advanced user with the appropriate access rights.

Please contact your WorkBook administrator if you can’t see this menu. System Administrator has Administrators access to this menu by default.

The update language layer lookup table with custom translations button updates the language layer you have selected with the custom translations you have made

The export chosen custom translation table button allows you to export your selected Language out of WorkBook and import to another WorkBook system. (e.g. export language from Test to Production system).

The import translations from an external source button allows you to import translations from another WorkBook system such as a test environment.

The language field allows you to select the system language that you wish to translate. The drop down contains a list of the default languages in WorkBook. However, you can add more via settings > global settings > languages.

If attempting custom translations, it is important to know what language your system is your system default.

The object field allows you to filter custom translations based on the following object types:

  • Messages

  • Report Caption

  • List

  • Report Parameters

  • DevXpressReport

  • Silverlight Menu

  • Touch version

The status field allows you to filter custom translations based on the following statuses:

  • View all

  • Is not translated

  • OK

  • Source has changed

  • Do Check

  • System translation

  • Auto translation

Use the null check box to hide sources with custom translations from the custom translation screen

Use the search grid field to enter a keyword associated with the custom translation you wish to make

Use the copy source to translation button to copy the source text to the translation field. This is helpful when you want to change only a small part of a long message.

UPDATING TRANSLATIONS - Via Settings module

  • Go to Settings module > Advanced tools > Custom translation

  • Select the Language and Object (1), then searching for the text you want to update (2)

  • Enter the desired custom text into column Translation (3)

  • Repeat the steps above for other Objects (1) from the drop-down list if required.

  • Then run the update (4) for the selected language.

A pop-up window will display to confirm the action. Click OK to confirm.

Note that changes may require you to log out and back in before they take effect.

UPDATING TRANSLATIONS - Via User Interface

WorkBook also allows you to custom translate directly from the User Interface which is linked to the main Custom Translation menu under Settings module. This is done via the access rights control window, hence only System Administrator has the permission to update the custom language using this functionality.

This is a very useful functionality to update the custom translation as it allows you to identify specific windows/views that you want to update with your custom texts.

Note

This functionality can only be accessed by System Administration role.

  • Go to My settings > Language & formatting options > click on Access override control panel

  • A pop-up window 'Element access right selectory' will display.

  • Identifying and click on the view that you want to update your custom texts from the list.

  • By hovering your mouse-pointer to each view from the list, WorkBook will highlight the corresponding view with a light blue color.

  • Once you could identified the view, clicking on it to open the new window that allows you to input your translation.

  • From the new pop-up window, go to tab “Element Custom Translation”

    • (1) Select the language that you want to update with custom texts.

    • (2) Search for the name or label that you want to update (or you can also find it from the list)

    • (3) Enter the custom text into column ‘Custom Translation’

    • Repeat the steps for other names or labels that you want to update.

    • (4) Once done, click on the Update button to apply the changes.

UPDATING TRANSLATIONS - Via Export and Import functionality

A custom translation can be exported from one system and import into the other. This is helpful when you want to test the custom translation view from a test system before deploying it into your production system.

Export Custom Translation

  • Go to Settings module > Advanced tools > Custom translation

  • Select the language that you would like to export (1)

  • Click the export button (2)

  • WorkBook will generate a unique ID that can be used for importing into the other systems.

  • Copying this unique ID to use later when running the import.

This ID can’t be retrieved again once the dialog is closed. You will need to generate a new ID instead.

  • From the destination system, Go to Settings module > Advanced tools > Custom translation

  • Click the Import button to start importing data.

  • A pop-up window will be shown allowing you to enter the unique ID that is generated from the source system.

  • Paste the copied ID above into the text box and click OK to confirm.
